The Lighted Window

The lighted window invites us to slow down and observe what is going on inside. A closed window symbolizes a beacon of hope. It has been said that the window represents the eye, which in turn leads to the soul. This imagery leads us to believe that we can enter the existence of others and feel the experiences of others, but what about out deep and hidden filters and biases? Can we really see into the soul of another? Does our self-awareness even allow us to see our own soul clearly?

Shadowed_Pew

Shadowed Pew

To build a real church pew, the hard wood is cut and chiseled (cherry, mahogany, oak). If Catholic, the foot boards are also hewed to the required size. In the past, where the family sat in the church depended on what the person could afford. In some churches, pews were installed at the expense of the parishioners, and were considered their personal property. Many pews were handed down from one generation to the next. The wealthier often expected more prestigious seating in reward to their contributions and upkeep of the church. Nowadays the pews serves as a place for the homeless to sleep. The pew can evoke a powerful emotion or memory, either positive or negative emotions, but the shadow can protect and comfort me. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow can protect and comfort me. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. (Holy Bible, Psalms 23:4).

PitcherAndPalm

Pitcher and Palm

The pitcher, jar, or amphora is surrounded by the plantings. An amphora is a type of container descending from as early as the Neolithic Period. It was used for the transport and storage of various products, both liquid and dry, but mostly for wine. The amphora is a characteristic shape and size and was most often ceramic. Near the wall stands the jug. It was probably not a pitcher to carry water, because it does not have handles. However this utilitarian jar was probably used for storage in the house or kitchen. Here we see the jar as a piece of art that is meant to be appreciated with the soft shape that is so warm and is touchable.

Description of work:

I have walked in the fields of lavender. Most lavender fields are found to be restful and serene. You can feel and experience the healing aroma of lavender just by standing still. The old manor house is situated along the meadow’s edge and looks just like a postcard. An avenue of trees are planted along the entrance drive to enhance the approach to this handsome scene. Lavender (Lavandulagenus) has almost 40 species of these flowering plants in the mint family. The common names are English, French, and Spanish lavender. These  names may not always be used appropriately. However, “English lavender” is commonly used for Lavandula angustifolia. French lavender may refer to either lavandula stoechas or Lavandula dentata. Spanish lavender may refer to either Lavandula stoechas, Lavandula lanata, or Lavandula dentata.

Trees_in_Spring

Trees in Spring

Enjoy a walk at the beach and when it is windy, just walk in the trees. Take pleasure in the bright electric-lime green leaves on the trees that are just beginning to emerge. The pink flowers of the Spanish heath (Erica lusitanica) provide a warm hue to the hills. Growing on the fir trees, moss and lichen cover the trunks of trees creating mysterious figures in the forest. The warm, pink rays of the setting sun creeps over the mounds of coastal sand. Although considered a weed, Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius) paints the hills a bright cadmium yellow in the distance.

Cat on a Fence

The orange and red cat sits atop a red fence. It is observant and wary, awaiting the small and tasty morsels that it naturally seeks. The sky is blue and the golden sun is overhead, blasting heated rays upon the head and body of the cat. That makes the cat warm and cozy and ready for a nap.

HopefulStar

Hopeful Star

Stars can be classified by their surface temperatures. However, spectral characteristics also offer a way to classify stars. This blue-white star is intrinsically brighter; a white star is cooler than a blue star. Blue-white Rigel, in the constellation Orion, is one of the brightest stars. It is about twice as hot, and 40,000 times brighter than our sun.

From alcohol to digital, thermometers have been used since the German Scientist Fahrenheit invented the alcohol thermometer in 1709.After the Fahrenheit scale was discovered, Swedish astronomer Celsius came out with his temperature scale that is referred to as the Celsius or centigrade scale. It is divided into 100 degrees separating the boiling and freezing points of water.

TheWitch

The Witch

What is your path or your gift? Is it to be kind and generous? The witch has enchantment on her mind that may lead to magical charm. It may involve healing, love, harmony, wisdom, and creativity. We need to practice reverence and respect for the environment, and all life upon the earth. Share your experiences and knowledge with those who seek your wisdom and perspective. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (Holy Bible, 1 corinthians 13: 4 -13).

Marriott and Koin Tower, Portland

Marriott and Koin Tower in Portland, Oregon. The fog begins to occur on a nightly basis in fall. Light rain, heavy rain. The city is enveloped by this weather presentation. This mild and moist climate can be appreciated. Ideal growing conditions do lead to extensive forests of coniferous trees, shrubs, rhododendrons, azaleas, and ferns. This foliage and floral greenery is so inviting. Windows fog over with Green now and forever; down by the waterfront.

Ornamental PearTree

Ornamental Pear Tree (PyrusCalleryana)

The ornamental pear leaves are dark green and waxy. Their oval shape and glossy patina is sensuous. Their fruits are small and hard, but have a lovely texture of roughness. Alas, the fruit is not edible. Like humans during their youth, this tree grows pyramidal to columnar. However, it becomes oval to spreading with age.
